My name is Kristin Taurisano Boutin, I am an accomplished, self-taught artist from Upstate New York, in the USA. I create artwork and décor for babies and children. My designs are recognized by their whimsical and distinct painting style. I create children’s artwork, along with what I like to refer to it as “Big Girl Artwork”; which is impressionistic and abstract paintings. In addition to wall art and décor, I also do leather work and textile products for children. I have been at this work for over two decades. But the children’s artwork is where my heart truly lays. My passion for art started when I was a little girl. Few toys brought me more joy than a new box of crayons did (especially the 64 count box, ha ha). I would literally sleep with them in my bed. Partially, just to keep them close, also to hide them away from my little sister.
Ever since my early teens, I had a very strong connection with children. I feel very blessed to have had this connection with children and their energy. Fast forward to my adult years, I went to college and got a degree in Speech Pathology. That had further strengthened my connection with children and their different personality traits. I truly adore their innocence, their silliness and the way they see the world. This gift of theirs is what I try to capture and express through my artwork. I firmly believed then, and I still believe now that the negative images and messages bombarding our children today can be counterbalanced by purposefully surrounding children with colorful, positive images and phrases. Throughout these many years, I was able to be a stay at home mom, and that’s when the flood gates opened for my artwork. My lifelong passion for creating finally had an outlet; much to the chagrin of my parents who paid for my four years of private college, ha ha. Ironically, my dad eventually became my biggest fan! Once my kids went to school, I worked as a designer for a children décor company, which lead me to having my own store. Sadly, I had to close my store so that I could focus on family members' needs and health issues.
After having had some healing time, I realized that I was not ready to give up on my dream and passion for painting. So, I decided to bring my artwork online. It did take some time, a lot of learning, and a ton of help, as I do not "play well" with computers. With gratitude, I am happy to say that my work now has a strong foundation, and I am able to share it with a global audience. Of course, the most important audience to me are the little ones.
I am blessed to be able to do what I love, where I love, with people that I love, especially being able to have precious time with my granddaughter. Sometimes, I have to pinch myself to make sure that I am not dreaming. I am thrilled each time to find that I am wide awake.
